My culture-Orang Ulu/Kayan

                                                                                                                                                                                                    The Orang Ulu ethnic group can be located in the state of Sarawak in such  as   areas,Bintulu,Miri,Baram,Bario,Lawas and Limbang.The term of orang ulu literally translates as "people of the upper river".Based on predominantly on oral history sources,the term 'orang ulu'  as used by Bruneian and Chinese trades instances-was at one time referring only to the Kayan and Kenyah. In general,the orang ulu are farmers,planting mostly hill paddy although they aslo do a lot of river fishing and hunting.Orang ulu considered to be highly skilled craft people,especially with regards to long boat making,wood craving,nat weaving and handicraft.Kayan people live in the longhouse along the river bank of river.In the longhouse the have a leader called as Maren Uma.Kayan Culture has a interested language to learn for example:

 selamet jihima-good morning
 nun dengah-how are you?
 akui-me
 ikak-you
 nyalam-love
 sayu-good
 kuman-eat
 kanen-rice
 musang-out
 tudu-sleep
 ngenep-like
 akui nyalam ikak pa'en-i love you always

       Kayan man made a wood carving.The name of the carving that heve been made by him called ikeng.He carving on the sheild that kayan culture called as kelebit.


                  This is known as a sape in kayan culture.Its made from wood.It is as a music equipment.
